Messaging with Flat Vector Images

Objective:
Encourage undecided STEM students to explore engineering and computer science degree options through a six-session event series hosted by the School of Engineering & Applied Science.

Challenge:
Drive attendance for sessions introducing six degree programs. Each session paired two programs, with presentations and Q&A following a pizza social—an unusual format that required clear communication.

Solution:

  • Messaging Strategy: Shifted from advertising by program to promoting by date and pairing, based on stakeholder feedback.
  • Visual Design: Created a cohesive series of six graphics using an Adobe Stock vector set. Customized each figure in Adobe Illustrator for diversity and visual interest—including flipping, recoloring and editing to create two people from one image.
  • Iconography: Added program-specific icons for quick recognition.
  • Typography Technique: Used layered text boxes for outlined fonts without losing clarity—white letters on top, colored outline beneath for contrast.
  • Engagement Tool: Integrated QR code linking to an MS Form for RSVP and pizza preferences, streamlining data collection.

Result:
Delivered a visually consistent campaign that simplified a complex event structure, increased clarity for students, and supported engagement through interactive sign-up.
